Follow Your Ears
Listening
One of the most valuable skills an engineer can learn is how to listen in a pure none bias state of mind. Listening to any piece of music for long periods of time can really start to warp the perception of an untrained listener. Skilled engineers train themselves to listen to tone and what’s actually coming from the speaker and not from there head. I usually try to block out my own personal thoughts on the piece, and instead of me forcing what I want out of the song, I creatively let the music tell me what it wants. Learn to listen to the tones within the piece of music and let your ears tell you what to do, not your mind. Every song is different, don’t do things just because your mind thinks that’s what should be done. Always follow your ears!
